Red Horizon is Awarded Women's Business Enterprise Certification
from the Women's Business Enterprise National Council
Newtown, CT , June 4, 2002 - Red Horizon, LLC announces today the receipt
of certification as a Women's Business Enterprise (WBE) from the Women's
Business Enterprise National Council in Washington, DC.
As a certified Women's Business Enterprise, Red Horizon is included in
Connecticut and National Women's Business Supplier databases and will
satisfy government mandated diversity requirements for Fortune 500
companies in Connecticut and throughout the United States.
In addition to the WBE status, Red Horizon applied for and was granted
certification with the State of Connecticut Minority and Small
Contractor's Set-Aside Program. As a Set-Aside vendor and small business
enterprise, Red Horizon will have the opportunity to bid on an applicable
portion of the State's purchases.
"Certification as a small and woman-owned business will maximize our position
as well as provide us with additional leverage to build successful
business relationships needed to move us to the next level", says Lisa
Pecunia, Principal of Red Horizon.
The Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), a coalition
created in 1997, is dedicated to enhancing opportunities for women's
business enterprises in America's major business markets. In partnership
with women's business organizations throughout the United States, WBENC
provides access to a national standard of certification and provides
information on certified women's businesses to purchasing managers
through an Internet database -- WBENCLink. The goal of the WBENC is to
foster diversity in the world of commerce. Its programs and policies are
designed to expand opportunities and eliminate barriers in the marketplace
for women business owners.
The State of Connecticut Minority and Small Contractors' Set-Aside Program,
Connecticut General Statutes, 4a-6(g) was established for the purpose of
assuring that Connecticut small and small minority owned businesses have
an opportunity to bid on a portion of the State's purchases. Under this
program twenty-five (25%) of State funded purchases are set-aside for
small businesses. In addition, twenty-five (25%) of that amount is
reserved for small businesses which are minority/women owned.
